Bridging USDC to Avalanche & Arbitrum
We are thrilled to announce that ChainPort has achieved a significant milestone in cross-chain bridging by enabling the porting of USDC to Avalanche and Arbitrum. Leveraging the power of the Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCPT), ChainPort facilitates the seamless and permissionless bridging of USDC assets to these networks, opening up a world of possibilities for USDC holders.
Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) is an on-chain permissionless utility that burns native USDC on a source chain and mints native USDC on a destination chain. Developers can embed CCTP into their apps so that USDC can be transferred across chains capital-efficiently, setting the stage for a global Web3 industry. By leveraging CCPT, users can bridge USDC seamlessly and efficiently across networks, enabling broader accessibility and utilization of their digital assets.
With the integration of CCPT, ChainPort empowers users to bridge their USDC holdings from Ethereum to Avalanche and Arbitrum, expanding the reach of their assets. This integration eliminates the traditional complexities associated with cross-chain transfers and provides users a streamlined and secure experience.
How It Works
Using ChainPort's user-friendly interface, users can initiate the USDC bridging process by selecting a source blockchain (e.g., Ethereum) and the destination blockchain (Avalanche or Arbitrum). ChainPort utilizes CCPT to securely burn the USDC tokens on one blockchain while generating an equivalent amount of USDC on the destination chain.
The bridging process is completed within minutes, providing users with their USDC tokens on the destination network, ready to be utilized within the respective ecosystems.
It is important to note that both stablecoins USDC and USDC.e exist on the Avalanche blockchain. While USDC.e on Avalanche is a "bridged form of Ethereum USDC" that was bridged from Ethereum via the Avalanche Bridge, it is not officially supported by Circle. USDC.e is unusable on Circle APIs. USDC, on the other hand, is fully supported by Circle, and bridging takes place via CCPT.
USDC bridged via ChainPort to Avalanche and Arbitrum are labeled as USDC, as it is bridged using CCPT and is fully supported by Circle. The bridging process with ChainPort and CCPT takes only a few minutes as opposed to days with USDC.e.
It seems likely that USDC.e will likely be phased out and replaced with USDC on most Avalanche protocols in due time.
